Dignity Should not Be a Luxury

One morning, 13-year-old Maya refused to go to school. Her mother, overwhelmed and out of options, called the police for help. But when officers arrived, they uncovered the real reason behind Maya’s distress—she didn’t have clean clothes, and it was that time of the month. Not wanting to face embarrassment, Maya chose to stay home. Not out of defiance, but out of dignity.

This is the heartbreaking reality for many families—not homelessness, but the daily struggle to afford basic necessities. No child should have to choose between their education and their dignity.
