From a Few Tables to a Movement of Hope
Our Founding Story: A Mission Born from Compassion
Several years ago, About Our Father’s Business (AOFB) began with a simple act of service. Our founder, Demar Lutz, felt a deep calling to care for the most vulnerable in our community. With a few tables set up outside homeless shelters, he and a small team of volunteers provided warm meals, blankets, socks, underwear, and toiletries to those in need.
What started as a grassroots effort soon grew into something more. Over the last two years, consistent support from compassionate individuals and volunteers helped expand the mission of AOFB. Recognizing the growing need, co-founders Matt Kern and Paul Marchena joined Demar to broaden the reach and services of the organization.
Today, AOFB is more than a ministry—it’s a movement of hope, dignity, and transformation. Through mobile showers, laundry services, warm meals, and essential care, we meet people where they are, ensuring that no one feels unseen or forgotten.

Demar Lutz
Demar Lutz, a native from North Carolina, has a diverse sales and business background with a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit.
Starting early in sales, Demar tried his hand in everything from door-to-door Kirby vacuums to used cars. After much success and being top sales specialist in 3rd party organizations, Demar decided to follow the burn inside of him to be his own boss and start a business himself.
Over the next several years Demar took to business owning much in the same way he did with the sales profession, full steam ahead. Well aware that he loved sales and business, but not sure what product or service he wanted to attach to it, Demar tried many different businesses. He often overlapped and ran multiple at the same time. Owning such businesses as cleaning, sports action photography, massage therapy in hopes to find what he could passionately enjoy but these wouldn’t last long. Consistently praying for direction and a known path for the Lord’s will Demar continued to find the right fit.
Finally, Demar bought out a small thrift store in Statesville NC and found something that burned inside of him just as much as business and sales, helping people! It wasn’t long before Demar turned the small thrift store around and focused on used furniture and appliances that the people in the low-income area around the store could afford. While continuing with the thrift store, soon Demar’s entrepreneurial drive took him to starting a roofing company and getting familiar with the real estate investing world.
These endeavors and passions would eventually become the foundation for what Demar felt the Lord had set forth for him to do. Currently Demar has a real estate investment company, a pallet brokering company, and still has a roofing company. The passion that God placed inside of him to help others has grown as well. Now he dedicates time to feeding and clothing the unhoused with a bigger focus on developing ways to provide shelter for them and encouraging strong relationships with Jesus Christ.
Much progress has taken place over the years in Demar’s life from where he started. None of which has been more fulfilling to him than helping others and following God’s will for his life.

Matt Kern
Having started a financial services practice in 1989, Matt Kern has seen nearly everything – bull markets, bear markets, bubbles, Y2K, the Great Recession, clients selling and buying businesses, a family business continuing even flourishing- after its founder passed.
He has celebrated clients becoming parents and others becoming grandparents. He has celebrated at high school graduations, college graduations, weddings and funerals.
He admits he gets the most fulfillment out of telling clients to “go ahead and retire!” Longtime clients would say that Matt has been with them through it all.

His insight, skills and tools shine best when working with owners of privately- held businesses and executive level leaders of both public and private companies.
